4/4/2008Paddy's Market

Shut Paddy's and turn it into an arty farty/business centre I cant help thinking of the last time no two times (unless you know of more) this came up we ended up with the white elephant known as the Fishmarket and Kings Court.

Maybe this is not ment for this area so where else can it go.

Someone asked yesterday what was to happen to Shipka Pass well why nor turn it into what the council want, Arty Farty Centre especially as it will be aimed more at the tourists and Glasgow Cross is a far busier place than the Bridgegate and would therefore attract more visitors etc etc etc

It's a damn disgrace us folk only get asked when it suits them to.
The Glasgow Council hasn't asked what we want.
If Paddys Market was to shut you would be doing away with the heritage of long ago.
I don't want my kids and grandkids growing up not knowing were I came from and my family's background.
They came over from Ireland and started a new life here.
My great great great great grandfather had a horse and cart going round the suburbs of Glasgow selling his wares and giving them a new home at Paddys, all spick and span. Growing up I bought many items there.
My first suit came from the Brigget and many other household items.
I had no other way to bye. Yes there are plenty of cheap shops around but for some whom the council might want to ignore they are still not cheap enough.
I have seen first hand the amount of stock that shops through out, clothes, food etc.
Whats wrong with having an outlet for it?
Selling it to people who will make use of it at a very cheap price.
There might not be a geat profit margin but at least our heritage will go on.
Let glasgow flourish is the motto but not disappear.
This is what over the years is happening. We don't preserve much at all these day. Please keep
it make it a place to promote and celebrate our culture and heritage.
Bring the history of the placce alive, tell stories of the good folk that once stayed there, bring it alive as a living musuem have the stall holders keep their stalls but have them tell the story as they do put a market inspecter in and make sure there isn't any monkey business.
There are ways the council could make it work to benefit Glasgow. many foreign visitors come to see their roots lie before the immigrants of old settled elsewhere.
The place is ideal for it and has great many characters.
