27/6/2008St James' Primary: what a year, what a school!
Primary 3/2 love painting and even the playground got a make over!
By Natalie Morrison:
St James’ Primary School bids the school year 2007/2008 a fond farewell but before we welcome the summer, here is a look back at a few of the many wonderful and interesting things that have happened throughout our school. August: We arrived back after a long, hot summer (hmm!) to welcome our lovely, new Primary 1 children and of course all of our older children. September: Primary 6 had a visitor who worked with the class to develop ‘Problem Solving’. The children worked together to build giant tetrahedrons. Primary 3/2 had been learning about the farm so they went to Tollcross Farm Park to see and touch the animals. October: Children and adults throughout the school dressed up to take part in our annual ‘Halloween Fun Day’. We had ghosts, ghouls and goblins along with witches, princesses, fairies and other fantastic outfits. Well done everyone for taking part! November: Primary 6 & 7 went to George Square to ‘Get Lost’ in a giant maze. Fortunately we didn’t lose anyone for too long! December: What a busy month! The whole school got working to fine tune our enterprising spirit. We made an array of items to be sold at the Winter Fair. This was another great success and we are always very appreciative of all the support we receive from the community. Our infants kept up their hard work by putting on the nativity show ‘Hosanna Rock’ (and they did rock!), there was not a dry eye in the house. January: Primary 6 went out on a visit to Scotland Street School to learn about school life during the time of the Victorians. The children got to dress up and enter a Victorian classroom, they soon found out that things were different then! February: Miss Smith the Primary 6 teacher had such a good time on her last trip with the class that she took them out again! This time they went to ‘The Tall Ship’ to see what life was like on the ocean waves. March: The whole world was celebrating ‘World Book Day’ and so were we! We dressed up again but this time as characters from the wonderful world of books. We had a fancy dress parade, we had a book swap shop and Primary 3/2 went on a visit to the Barras Nursery to read to the little ones. This was another success and we look forward to the next one! Primary 7 also got the performing bug and they worked hard on their show. They presented ‘Easter’ during our Easter service at church. Well done Mrs Mackay and Primary 7, what a great show! April: Primary 7 had visitors from the ‘Goals Project’ and they worked on recycling. May: Primary 1 also went on a visit to Scotland Street Museum to look at toys from the past. Primary 3/2 went to the Burrell Collection to look at and hold Egyptian Artefacts, they also went to Kelvingrove Art Galleries to look at all the Egyptian treasures there. We also managed a quick visit the swing park! Primary 7 went to the SECC for the concert ‘Choices for Life’. There were children there from all over Scotland. June: What a whirlwind of a year and at last things are beginning to wind down. Primary 7 are preparing for school life away from St James’ but before we bid them farewell, they had to pack their suitcases and wellies and head to Lochgoilhead Outdoor Activity Centre. They took part in kayaking, abseiling, rock climbing, archery and many more great activities. Alas it is our final few days, but before we go we still have Sports Day and Prize Giving. As you can see from some of the things that have happened throughout the year, St James’ Primary never stops providing the children with a range of opportunities for learning outwith the class. We hope you agree that we are a great school. Enjoy the summer and we look forward to seeing you in August, where it all starts again! P.S. We will be back after the holidays with a new Primary 7 class and they will be taking on the roles of roving reporters. We will keep you abreast of our news on a regular basis!
P6 Halloween Fun Day, what a scary bunch!
World Book Day, we all dressed up!
